ALS AssociationThe ALS Association is inaugurating its new Nevada Chapter after the group joined 39 affiliates throughout the country to work in collaboration with the local community in order to support finding effective treatments and a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The National Board of Trustees of the association recently praised the initiative in a press release.

The new chapter will work in tandem with the association’s mission and will help support global research projects and nationwide advocacies. In addition, the ALS Association’s Nevada Chapter is going to work on providing support to ALS patients and their families in order to improve their quality of life and health.

“On behalf of The ALS Association, we are pleased to welcome the Nevada Chapter to our nationwide network of affiliates.  This organization has demonstrated its commitment in support of people with this devastating disease in Nevada,” stated the president and CEO of The ALS Association, Barbara Newhouse. “I am confident that the leadership of the Nevada Chapter will provide exceptional service to people with ALS, and we will be a stronger national organization because of them.”

The ALS Association has been committed throughout the country to fighting the progressive and neurodegenerative condition that damages the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Since the disease progressively makes it difficult and eventually impossible to walk, talk and even move, the association supports investigation, care services and public policy.

“We are delighted to represent The ALS Association in Nevada and continue to provide and enhance the services we provide to our neighbors across the entire state of Nevada,” said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nevada Chapter, William Milone. “Being part of the national effort in the fight against ALS is a great honor and will enable our chapter to expand the scope of support here in the state of Nevada.”

There is currently no cure for this disease. The ALS Association’s Nevada Chapter will dedicate its efforts to continue the work of the association and fight for the best health care services possible for the patients and families in the region.

“Our first priority is and has always been to provide support to all the people across Nevada with ALS and their families,” added the Executive Director of the Nevada Chapter, April Mastroluca.  “Working in collaboration with The ALS Association and their chapters across the country, we will be able to ensure that we can continue to offer the services and support necessary for our ALS families in Nevada as we have done since 2004.”

The chapter will be supported by several donors in order to provide funding to research projects. The first events being organized by the Nevada Chapter are the Annual Steve Rigazio Golf Tournament at South Shores on May 11 at Lake Las Vegas, and the Walk to Defeat ALS, which will take place in on Saturday, May 30 at Reno Aces Ballpark in Northern Nevada.
