Man With ALS Plans to Hike 600 Miles to Raise Awareness of ALS

This video from WCVB Channel 5 Boston is all about Rick Marks from Winchester, Massachusetts. Following an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis last October at the age of 55, Marks decided to raise awareness of the disease by hiking from Massachusetts to Maine.

He plans to tackle the 600-mile trek along the Appalachian Trail from Mount Greylock in Massachusetts to Mount Katahdin in Maine over a period of eight weeks to awareness of the disease and money for the non-profit organization ALS One. ALS One is a partnership of doctors and researchers who are working together to develop better treatments and hopefully a cure for the disease by 2020.

    good luck if i still had leg and arm muscles i would go too. taking my 3 sons to wilderness backpacking every year was their vacation after 7 years old. keep us informed of progress somehow. i dont think i will make 2020 would sure like to talk
