Zimmerman, who’s from Texas, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2014 at just 36 years old. However, despite the devastating news, she’s remained incredibly positive and is an active advocate for the disease, regularly giving talks about ALS and explaining how she was diagnosed.

The video shows Zimmerman explaining the condition to her son’s high school. She has also been on missionary trips to Israel and Ethiopia to help spread the word about her faith and to share how faith has helped her get through the diagnosis.
