Innovative diagnostic method predicts rate of prediction. Good or bad?
New research is uncovering ways to enhance the accuracy of an ALS diagnosis. But the method will also predict the rate of the patient’s progression. I’m all for an easier way to diagnose ALS (vs. the multitude of tests we have to endure now).

However, I’m hesitant to accept that a doctor can tell how fast symptoms will progress. This leaves no room for hope, individual resilience, and trial treatments.
What are your thoughts about this innovative diagnostic method?

Science is a wonderful thing, and I think the more information and insight the better we can prepare! I do get a little nervous when they start predicting the speed of progression because I know that when it comes to medicine and health, unexpected and unexplainable things happen all the time. I would hate for a determination to limit our hope. This is a tough bit of information.
