In a recent column, I wrote about improvements to rollators I wanted manufacturers to make. Actually, it was a gentle “rant.” I’ve done the same about accessible public restrooms, which, in my opinion, aren’t really accessible.

We have a lifelong chronic condition, and if anyone deserves to rant a little, it’s us. If there was ever an understanding group to listen sympathetically, it’s this group.

So, rant away or vent away here anytime you need to. This forum is always a safe space to do that, and where sympathy and true empathy can be found.

What about your life with ALS do you need to vent about? Remember that these can be big or small things.

I’ll add: push-pad door openers that are out of order, cement ramps in parking lots & sidewalk crossings that are too short and too steep.

About ALS: daily uncertainty if my body will be working well today or if one part decides to go on strike. Having to pay attention all the time — and not drift into mindless movement (or swallowing, or breathing).

I totally agree about handicapped doors not working. And even when they do work, once you get inside, the restrooms have heavy doors without auto openings. It makes it difficult to enter without getting hit in the back by the door. I have noticed this even in the new NYS thruway rest stops.

The carbon rollator I have is perfect for me. It is lightweight (under 11 lbs), turns on a dime, folds easily, but is expensive. It has totally been worth the cost. I am still mobile with a cane or rollator and its weight allows me to navigate on my own. I can easily put it in the car by myself.

KathleenAnn, you are so right about the heavy RR doors. I’ve even had to use my rollator to help me wedge the door open. I’ve been nearly squished by more than a few … hahaha

oooh, a carbon rollator — you are so lucky, I really love their sleek design! ……..keep moving well, my friend!
