I recently found out In Oct. ’23 that my brothers and I carry the same identical SOD1 variation.
My eldest brother started showing symptoms more than 15 years ago but his diagnosis was delayed because he also carried a CMT variation. He died in late May (Canada has MAID) at 62.
My middle brother, 60, started showing symptoms in Aug. ’22 and has declined much more rapidly; he’s already in a wheelchair full time and was the first to have his DNA tested.
I’m 55 and not showing any symptoms yet.
One of the reasons I joined this forum is I’m struggling with how to tell my two kids.
