my absolutely wonderful wife, having just retired from a long and storied career as a music teacher and theater director, came down with ALS the same year she retired. She it was limb onset, but affected her breathing very quickly. She passed away 9 months after diagnosis from respiratory failure. My first wife, some many years ago, passed away from respiratory failure after her breast cancer spread to her lungs.
Respiratory failure is a relatively peaceful death, from what I have seen. Still, I am in great pain for all I have been through.
