Short Bio |
While an ICU RN with Neuroscience certification (CNRN), I was diagnosed with ALS. Bedside nursing became difficult and I switched to being the hospital’s Neuroscience Clinical Educator. ALS forced me to retire ten years later in 1995 and much to my surprise, most of my nursing education and experience in ALS still applies 25 years later! Keeping up with new equipment has been easy because I am using it; wheelchair, lift system, van, feeding tube, ventilator and trach — so far! New medications… well there isn’t much for ALS. I have a website, http://www.alsfrombothsides.org/that shares what I know from both sides, nursing and having ALS.
