Kris replied to the topic How Well Are You Sleeping? in the forum Living With ALS 6 months, 3 weeks ago

I sleep in hospital bed with a latex (not made for ehospital bed) mattress. I can’t move in bed to adjust my body position. I wake a few times each night to readjust the amount of leg and head elevation to make my back hurt less. I usually sleep 6-7 hours per night which seems enough. I’m looking for advice on how to select a recliner chair to sle…[Read more]

Kris replied to the topic Is anyone getting the 4th shot/booster? in the forum Coronavirus (COVID-19) and ALS 9 months, 1 week ago

My neurologist recommended that I get 2nd booster because he considers me immunocompromised.I’m also over 65. My husband and I both got 2nd booster two weeks ago. Our arms were sore for a couple of days and we were more tired than usual the next day but that was all.

Kris replied to the topic Is There Such a Thing as Too Much Information? in the forum Living With ALS 10 months ago

<p style=”text-align: left;”>My husband and I need information to plan for the future and make decisions. I’m not sure there can be too much information for us. We have been very frustrated when the answer to our questions about what changes in my abilities we should be prepared for has been “everyone is different” which although true is not at al…[Read more]

Kris replied to the topic A brand-new sub-forum: Let's discuss mobility, technology and medical equipment in the forum Mobility Aides, Assistive Technology and Medical Equipment 10 months, 2 weeks ago

Has anyone been successful in paying the difference between what Medicare will pay for a manual Hoyer lift using a prescription and the cost to buy an electric/battery Hoyer lift?  The companies I’ve talked to in the Seattle area say it isn’t possible but the info I’ve seen online indicates it can be done. Thanks.

Thank you, Len! Your post is definitely not too long. I have a PWC that goes up and down but, because I am only 5 ft tall, it doesn’t go down as far as I’d like to make it easy to get in and out.

I recently got a hospital bed. The invacare premium foam mattress it came with is too soft and makes my back hurt. I now have a firm latex mattress which is more comfortable for me. The twin xl mattress fits on the hospital bed although it is a couple of inches wider than standard hospital bed mattress.

After my diagnosis August 2021 my husband and I moved to a one-story house and are now trying to plan bathroom modifications for when I am in a wheelchair. We have been assuming I would use my power wheelchair when I can no longer shuffle along with walker but noticed Nina said she used manual wheelchair in bathroom due to difficulty in…[Read more]
