    Hello,

    I’m new to this forum and have questions as a caregiver to my husband eho sufferers from ALS. We are at the stage of a Tracheotomy.  I’ve read information about the topic, however,  I would like to hear from others who are going through the same thing.

    1. Here in the United States it appears that only 10 percent of our ALS folks get a trach. I am a secondary caretaker with my daughter as primary. She tells me her husband has decided he will not get one. After a trach the idea of 24/7 necessity for a caretaker, generally professional does not appeal to him. He says his biggest fear is getting locked in.

    Gail xx, thanks for your reply. I don’t believe it all was loaded. 2. I, is how it ended. Getting locked in is my fear for him.
