Here in the United States it appears that only 10 percent of our ALS folks get a trach. I am a secondary caretaker with my daughter as primary. She tells me her husband has decided he will not get one. After a trach the idea of 24/7 necessity for a caretaker, generally professional does not appeal to him. He says his biggest fear is getting locked in.
