Recently I have been grieving because of all of the losses in functioning that happen with ALS. When there is no hope of getting better, that’s very difficult to deal with and accept. The reality of it is just shocking and overwhelming. I try to do things to take my mind off of it but those are temporary distractions. Staying strong is very challenging.
On a more positive note, I just got back from going to the beach with my mom for five nights. It was nice to get away from home for a few days and relax there. I hope everyone had a good summer and thank you all for your support and encouragement.
Kathy, everything you are experiencing is normal for the circumstances. I think we get use to having a solution or knowing that the worst will be over soon, and ALS just does not fit into the idea. I think you you are feeling what many others feel and you are able to articulate it well. Grief is a beast, as we all know. I know this does not change your situation but I want you to know that you remain in my thoughts and your insight and contributions on the forums are appreciated.
As for the beach trip, that awesome!! That is where I try to go when I need to relax and clear my mind or focus on something. I especially love the beach in the winter. The salt air, the sound of the water, the birds flying overhead and hopping around on the sand —- ah Peace.
