I think it’s a holdover from that year we spent in lockdown during covid, but besides keeping my immunizations up to date, I carry (and use) hand sanitizer and always have a clean face mask tucked in my purse — just in case.

I agree with Amanda — be cautious about doing this.

Various stem cell treatments have been around as long as I’ve been living with ALS, 16 years. I’ve never read where this was successful. Only that treatments are very expensive and have to be repeated because the effects wear off (the stem cells die).

I found that taking smaller bites of food helps with swallowing. Also, training myself (and my dining companions) not to expect me to eat and talk at the same time. 🙂

I’ll add: push-pad door openers that are out of order, cement ramps in parking lots & sidewalk crossings that are too short and too steep.

About ALS: daily uncertainty if my body will be working well today or if one part decides to go on strike. Having to pay attention all the time — and not drift into mindless movement (or swallowing, or breathing).

I was a lacto-ovo-vegetarian at the time of my diagnosis. My doctor told me to eat more protein, so now I include animal meats, and the change helped me have more energy.

A case study of one patient hardly meets the criteria of this type of promotion. It’s clickbait, titling the press release in such a manner. I agree with Amanda, we need more evidence and a peer review of the findings.

I think that over the past few years, more rollators are being recommended to a wider variety of patients — making rollators more visible and “accepted” in public spaces. Now if we only could get our egos to accept them as well 😉 😉

At first, I noticed all the negatives. For instance, it was intrusive; it was (I believed) the first thing people noticed when I entered a room. It showed up in photographs, and when hugging a friend my rollator became a third party in the entanglement.

I agree — that’s what is so frustrating about getting caught up in the latest announcements, breaking news, etc — it usually turns out to be about theories or trials with fish, mice, or still in the petri dish. The hype is to bring notice to the lab … not give pALS helpful facts.
