I am in fairly early stage of ALS, I can’t walk but while my voice is much weaker I can still speak. My wife and I sleep in separate room to give her more sleep than when I’m making noise struggling to turn over and find a comfortable (somewhat) position. I have an Alexa dot beside my bed and she can still understand me when I tell her to call my wife when I need help. I find that Alexa is having more difficulty understanding me and have been thinking of other methods of calling my wife. Obviously the article was very interesting and I appreciate Dagmar’s work in this research. Hopefully it will aid all of us in the future.

Dagmar, you are my hero. When I get down or frustrated I think “what would Dagmar do”.  You are an inspiration.

I was diagnosed in December 2020 (misdiagnosed for 3 years) attended my first ALS clinic in early February, met with everyone on the team and was fairly satisfied. Being new and still in shock I didn’t know what to expect. My doctor there referred me to Duke University ALS clinic for a 2nd opinion. Spent two days at Duke and was very very pleased with the knowledge, compassion and information we received.  Duke is a three hour drive for us as compared to a 45 minute drive here, we go back to Duke after six weeks and then every three months.  Fortunately both clinics are good.

I got my first vac a week ago, no side effects.get my 2nd on Feb 4. Hope to get to see my grandkids after that. I have lots of family and friends who want to come visit but not until all of us have been vaccinated. Saturday is our 50th wedding anniversary, we will be alone but have set up a Zoom session for family and friends to drop in. One rule, no health or political talk.
