Life Time will host a nationwide fitness event Oct. 25 to raise funds for ALS research and children’s health.

The annual GO90: Move with Meaning challenge will take place at Life Time locations nationwide on Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. local time. Life Time members and nonmembers are invited to take part in a 90-minute workout challenge followed by a social gathering. The 90-minute format symbolizes the reality that someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with ALS roughly every 90 minutes.

Participation requires a $25 donation, with proceeds to be split equally between Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS, which funds innovative research and raises awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and the Life Time Foundation, dedicated to supporting children’s health.

Life Time members can register through the Life Time app, and nonmembers can use the event’s registration link. Those who can’t attend may donate to support the causes.

Last year, the GO90 event raised $253,000 for the two organizations.

“Every dollar raised during GO90 provides hope for those impacted by ALS and healthier futures for kids across the country,” Sarah Emola, director of the Life Time Foundation, said in a company press release.

Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS was founded by Augie Nieto, a pioneer in the fitness industry who was diagnosed with ALS diagnosis in 2005 and used his professional network and passion for fitness to fund and accelerate research on the disease.

Since Nieto’s death in 2023, Life Time — whose members train on equipment developed by the company he helped build — has honored his mission through the annual GO90 fundraising events.

“We are thankful for Life Time, their team members and members for supporting our Quest,” said Gretchen Simoneaux, vice president of Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS.

ALS is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that causes the gradual loss of motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis. Its exact causes remain unclear, but factors such as intense physical activity, military service, or environmental exposures may increase the risk of developing the disease. Augie’s Quest plans to use funds from GO90 to help uncover how these risks contribute to ALS.

Although the exact causes of ALS are largely unknown, some lifestyle factors — including intense physical activity, military service, and exposure to certain environmental toxins — may increase the risk for developing the disease. Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS plans to use the funds to better understand these risk factors.

“Military personnel and high-performing athletes are diagnosed with ALS at much higher rates than the general population,” said Simoneaux. “Funds from GO90 will help us identify the underlying biological mechanisms and risk triggers contributing to this elevated incidence.”

The Life Time Foundation, meanwhile, supports children’s health through programs that promote nutrition, movement, and environmental well-being.

“Our Life Time Foundation’s mission connects powerfully with Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS, which fuels ALS research while encouraging those impacted by the disease, and our commitment to help children live healthier lives through movement and healthy nourishment completes this movement,” Emola said. “Together, these causes demonstrate the incredible positive impact movement can have at every stage of life.”
