My mother died of this disease about 27 years ago.  Next up was my cousin about 10 years ago.  We have C9orf72.

My Mom had no drugs to help, she was done when the disease started.  She had seven kids and a lot of health issues.  Her fighting was not there.  She lasted about 3 years.  She had a bull head, I guess I know where I got mine…

I did not believe the diagnosis, for my Mom, I thought it was a stroke.  After a while I accepted the facts.  Then I dug into it.  I had an idea, it had to be genetic.  But the ALS people I talked to in the 90’s would not listen.  They said people in Canada were starting to look at a genetic link.  I gave up the fight and watched her die.  I know what is coming so I fight every day.

My cousin was in Oregon, so I never saw him.  I think he lasted 5 years.

I gave blood and skin to the Ohio State Clinic for their research.  I am also helping Washington U ALS clinic in ST. Louis.

I am into year 2 and doing well.
