Turmeric & Ginger are Antioxidants

Fall is the perfect season to drink spice teas. This ginger and turmeric tea recipe is chock-full of antioxidants. Merriam Webster defines antioxidants as a substance (as beta-carotene or vitamin C) that inhibits oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen, peroxides, or free radicals and  a substance that is added to food and other products to prevent harmful chemical reactions in which oxygen is combined with other substances.

Ginger and turmeric are two herbs that are often touted for their therapeutic benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, both of these naturally growing roots may have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties and could offer many other health benefits. You can incorporate ginger and turmeric into meals, beverages, or even take them in a supplement form.

Turmeric is known for reducing chronic joint pain and has long been used as a treatment. Ginger has anti-nausea, digestive, and respiratory benefits in addition to its antioxidant benefits.

As the air cools, warm up with this ginger and turmeric tea. It’s delicious, soothing and will make you feel cozy inside with every sip.

GINGER TURMERIC TEA

8 oz boiling water
1 tsp. fresh turmeric root, grated (1/3 tsp. if using dried)
1 tsp. fresh ginger root, grated (1/3 tsp. if using dried)
1 tsp. coconut oil
Honey to taste, optional
Fresh lemon wedge, optional

Combine all ingredients.

Drink daily or as desired.
