Advocating for better research
Hi everyone,
I’m writing to share an article I wrote arguing that the scientific community needs to focus on identifying ALS subtypes and developing more targeted treatments if we’re going to make faster progress.

It’s so so important that patients and families advocate for better science. We know that, like cancer, ALS is a mosaic of conditions and therefore that there probably isn’t a “one size fits all” cure. But too much drug development is still blind to this fact.
If you want to be an advocate for better science, the Northeast ALS clinical trial consortium runs an excellent free training program. You can sign up here: https://neals.org/people-living-with-als/als-clinical-research-learning-institute
Let me know what you think!

Imagine testing a really good drug for HER2+ breast cancer in someone with liver cancer. Would it be any surprise when that drug fails?
