Devastating News About Research Funding
I just read that the Trump administration announced a new policy changing how the United States funds medical research. It will have a significant effect on ALS and all disease research!
When a university researcher receives a federal research grant, that funding includes additional indirect money for maintaining equipment and facilities and for paying the support staff who keep labs running. This indirect funding is essential for research labs, and last year, it accounted for about 26% of the grant money distributed. The administration states it will cap the allowable amount of indirect funding at 15% in the future.
I would encourage everyone with the time and energy to call or email their Senators or Representatives to express their concerns!
