In this short video from the ALS Association Texas Chapter, the early symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are discussed using simple computer-generated animation.

ALS is difficult to diagnose in the early stages as the symptoms presented can often mimic other diseases and conditions, however some of the early signs include muscle weakness or a lack of motor control for the patient’s arms and legs which may mean that person suddenly starts tripping over regularly or has difficulty with performing simple tasks such as buttoning their shirt. Other symptoms such as shortness of breath or difficulty swallowing, or uncontrolled bouts of laughter or crying may also be present.
