For most people, the holidays are a time of joy and good cheer. But when living with ALS, or providing care for someone who does, holiday activities have the potential to add stress to an otherwise happy season.

Over the past 12 years, I’ve been living with ALS, I’ve come to rely on a simple list of wellness behaviors that help me navigate the challenges ahead. I call it the “C.H.A.R.M. list;” C=clear intentions, H=humor, A=attitude, R=recovery time, and, M=mindful thoughts and actions.

You can read examples of each in my column here: C.H.A.R.M. Through the Holidays

Do you already follow these same habits? What additional advice can you share that will help you navigate the holidays? What have been or will be the most challenging moments for you?

Tips to help make holidays E-Z when living with ALS:

    – online e-greeting cards (free!)
    – Skype (or FaceTime) with family/friends who live far away, instead of a card.
    – online gift ordering (and wrapped) delivered to the recipient.

What other tips can you share?
