Many thanks to Rick Jobus for sharing his knowledge of Medicare as it applies to pALS. I have printed out Rick’s articles an filed them all for reference when I need services.

I also have discovered that PALS are covered for any mobility asstive equipment needed to navigate the home as the need arises. (As I understand, many conditions require a 5 yr wait between claims) for example, if a pALS requires crutches and  a provider writes an order they are covered 6 mos later a rollator could be covered then , a manual chair and finally a power chair. I think a scooter could fit in somewhere. You can’t go backwards, if a manual chair has been covered you can’t go back for a rollator and so on. Providers may know nothing about this and may need guidance in properly writing an order for equipment. Equipment that enables you to have fun outside the home is not covered. Forget about light weight wheelchairs, all terrain power chairs or wheelchair vans.
