Let’s kick off the New Year with a fun online game called “Would You Rather.” It’s a great way to get to know our Forum members and share a bit about yourself. That being said, let’s do a ”Would You Rather: ALS Edition.”

The rules are simple. In this topic post, I will put a new “Would you rather” question with two options each week. You then have to decide which one you prefer, put it in the reply section, and tell us why.

The first question: would you rather be perpetually cold or overheated?

I’ve always felt cold, even before I had ALS. So my preference is to be overheated… I know, feeling hot is no fun, but shivering and being cold to the core isn’t either.

I would definitely rather be warm than cold! The cold temperatures actually cause me pain now that I have ALS. I’ll take some sunshine and warmer temps any day!

Cold, I can always add more layers or get under my heated throw

I hate the feeling of sweating in my wheelchair

Never did like the cold. Always preferred it 25 degrees Celsius or more.

Cold. when with cold I can add warm clouding or fire up the “Salamandra” term used here for a wood heater.

When hot (this summer I had 33ºC in my home), AirCon was the only solution.

I prefer to be overheated. I seem to have more aches and pains in winter. In addition, since I have an AFO. A knee brace and an ankle brace it is much easier to put on my equipment with shorts on than over pants or sweats.

Either is very uncomfortable when you have temperature deregulation and your body can’t handle temperature changes. My husband didn’t tolerate hot OR cold – but being overheated is more dangerous. You can be bundled up when its cold, and generally be ok. But if it is hot and you aren’t sweating at all you can develop heat stroke, which can be life threatening.

I say cold, I can always warm up but being to hot is much harder to fix. We do not have an air conditioner. You can only take off so much clothing! Lol

My husband says the cold really bothers his legs. He actually wears long underwear now, when we walk outside ( Pennsylvania). He would’ve never worn them before.
