    Hi everyone,

I’ve been exploring how yoga, stretching, and breathing exercises might complement existing ALS treatments. My friend and mentor, who has ALS, includes these practices as part of his routine physical therapy, alongside his treatment plan, and has found them incredibly beneficial.

I’m curious if others have tried incorporating these approaches as well. How have they helped you, if at all? What challenges you may have encountered?

Additionally, does anyone know of studios or programs offering adaptive or accessible yoga for people with ALS?

Thanks so much for your insights.

    Warmly,
    Bryan

PS: I’m new here so if I posted to the wrong place or should have replied to another post, apologies!! Happy to be redirected, should that be the case. 🙂

Hello DoubleB, you are so right – – yoga is a good form of exercise for pALS. I used to teach yoga during my professional years, and, I continue to “teach” myself. I’ve had ALS for 14 yrs., and I credit the various yoga practices I do for keeping me mobile. Unfortunately there are no ALS-specific yoga programs. I suggest you look for those for MS, stroke, or Parkinsons. I have been in touch with a yoga teacher who is newly diagnosed and I will ask her for some recommended sites and pas them along to you.

I live in Wales (UK). I go to a gentle chair yoga group twice a week. I find that the stretches really help to reduce the episodes of tightness/spasms in my body.
