This emotional ABC News video shares how amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) has impacted former NFL star Steve Gleason’s life.

The 39-year-old New Orleans Saints hero created a video blog about his journey with ALS, documenting the progression of the disease and the pregnancy of his wife, Michelle. Gleason’s ALS progressed quickly and he’s now in a motorized wheelchair, unable to eat or breathe unaided and can only communicate via a computer. His vlog was later turned into a documentary which was shown at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
