Can you help other pALS by sharing an experience?
Posted by Amanda on March 27, 2025 at 11:28 amSharing our experiences and stories often helps normalize what other pALS are feeling or experiencing. It’s an easy way to help others! Do you have a personal ALS story that helped you learn a life lesson?

My weakness is in my legs and I use a rollator. Also great for moving laundry, dishes etc from room to room. Lately I’ve noticed weakness in thumbs and forefingers, with difficulty squeezing little eyedrop bottle for my glaucoma drops. So I tried this little bottle squeezer (Autosqueeze) found on eBay or Amazon and it works great! (OT recommended.) (Pen for scale.) My ophthalmologist recommended a laser procedure that may eliminate the need for the eyedrops, but this squeezer seemed like an easier solution. Maybe laser later.

Hi y’all. I live in south central Oklahoma in a small town. We are actually 6 miles out of town in a more rural area. It is pretty here to me. We are near a lake, and spring is the best here. I was diagnosed November 2023. First symptoms of left hand weakness and fasciculations in Jan of 2022. I was an RN working in an ER. I researched my symptoms and possible causes. I knew very early my likely diagnosis. But you know the difficulty in being accurately diagnosed in a timely manner. I retired September 2023 due to inability to do tasks required of my job. Now my left arm is pretty useless and beginning to have ambulation problems. My experience has led me to understand that every little joyful thing you do physically is to be savored. Because you don’t know if it will be the last time you can do that thing. I often think… I wish I’d have known that was the last time I’d be able to take a hike or ride a bike or kayaking. But I love everyday I’m alive and appreciate the things I can still do.
