Maybe you’re not quite ready to jump into one of the traditional in-person ALS awareness events popping up this month – – or simply can’t because there isn’t one nearby or, covid restrictions continue where you live.

Below, I’ll post a few unique awareness-raising activities I’ve found that are easy and help our ALS cause.

Do you know of any other unique or fun ALS awareness events to share with us? Tell us about them in the comment section below.

How about a strawberry smoothie or a good cup of coffee?

On May 14, Dutch Bros Coffee will host a fundraiser called “Drink One for Dane.” A portion of that day’s sales will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help find a cause and cure for ALS. This year, they hope to raise $1.6 million!

Mark your calendar – – and be sure to tell all your friends to get their beverage at Dutch Bros on May 14th!

Or, how about a temporary tattoo?

“Inked for ALS” is an awareness campaign sponsored by Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, (Yes, the same company developing the potential ALS treatment AMX0035)

Just order their FREE press-on tattoo (up to 15!) from their website, then post a photo of your tattoo on social media. Besides the free tattoo, they also have free ALS awareness Zoom backgrounds and a Facebook frame.

When you order your press-on tattoo you also get a page where you can make a donation to one of 5 great ALS organizations. So, share this link “Inked for ALS” with your friends and ask them to order their tattoos AND make a donation.

I ordered mine and it arrived in 3 days! I’ll be showing off my tattoo at the 5/12 Forums zoom call ?

Have you ordered your (temporary) tattoo – – and posted a photo of it online at https://inkedforals.com/gallery/???

      I HAVE 🙂 …check it out 🙂

Reminder – – For every image uploaded, Amylyx will donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), the ALS Association (ALSA), I AM ALS, Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS), the ALS Society of Canada, and the Les Turner ALS Foundation.

It’s easy, it’s fun… and we’re raising money for ALS research!

I think Dutch Brothers Coffee only has locations in 10 western states in the United States ( California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Idaho, and Texas.)

Thanks for listing the state names Kathy.

How can our forum members help raise funds for ALS research? If any of our members have family or friends who live in any of those states be sure to send them the link and remind them about Friday, May 14th – – a portion of every purchase goes to the MDA ear-marked for ALS research.

That’s true Amanda.  Most people don’t know anything about ALS.  I hope they raise a lot of money to find a cure for ALS!

…unique or fun ALS awareness :

    hello Dagmar,

we’ll be educating some of our neighbors around Haight-Ashbury this weekend,

about how ALS can interfere with your ability to get in or out of your apartment when it involves walking up and down stairs; and about how landlords can ‘allow’ you to put in a chair lift and then change their mind and try to silently evict you…even when the law is clearly against them for doing so

I’m not sure if this link will make it through please let me know thank you very much Sincerely, Alex

Hi Everyone, ALS month is a Great time to spread ALS awareness! Richard ‘sparked this recent initiative and Dagmar as usual is actively engaged. Dagmar has done so much over the years for ALS, Dagmar and Amanda are such Heros!

You may ask what can I do as a forum member to spread the word about ALS month? The answer is lots!

#1 Copy/paste a donation link on your favorite social app with short comments.

#2 Copy/paste an appropriate google image flyer about May ALS awareness on social apps with a comment.

#3 E-mail/contact your local/city government representatives asking them to declare May an official ALS awareness month.

#4 E-mail your local news and radio stations regarding ALS awareness month.

The above are only suggestions, you can choose to do only one initiative or all. This may not be a national viral event, with Covid taking much of the attention right now, But any effort is better than nothing! Richard has already e-mailed a few agencies, I’ve e-mailed one so far. By tomorrow I’ll have posted before/after ALS diagnosis photos of myself and a ‘DutchBros donation link on a photo sharing website called ‘imgur. Within a week I’ll hit most social media sites with links about ALS awareness month! You can absolutely do the same on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, You-Tube or any website of your choice. Below are a few donation links you can use when posting! Wishing you strength and all the Best! Jim

Do you or your friends shop online?

At Amazon.com, the AmazonSmile Foundation offers customers an easy way to support specific charities, such as the ALS Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchases to a favorite charitable organization that you designate —no fees, no extra cost.

How: Just go to this link: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/chpf/homepage?orig=%2F and follow the prompts (sign-in to your Amazon account and pick your charity from their list). Then all future qualified purchases will go towards a percentage donation made by Amazon.

Just think how this can add up throughout the year! Be sure to share this suggestion with your friends and family.
